As an LVT floor fitter in Penn, Wolverhampton All Floor One recently installed luxury vinyl flooring in a large downstairs room.
The first part of the installation process was to remove the skirting boards and then fit plywood to the existing floor. Correctly preparing the subfloor is essential to create a stable and durable layer between the base and finished floor. It’s important to get this right, as the materials used will support the flooring that goes on top, enabling it to remain intact. Plywood is a good choice for a subfloor, not least because it is strong and durable and able to withstand heavy loads. Quality plywood is also moisture resistant and offers some level of sound insulation.
Once the plywood was in place, we applied moisture suppressant to the new concrete slab that was in part of the room. It’s important to include this where there is concrete, because concrete slabs are prone to decay and cracking if not properly sealed with a moisture barrier. This is because concrete is porous and moisture can move from high humidity to low humidity areas. This can damage flooring. A moisture barrier acts as a protective layer to shield the concrete and protect it from water and vapour transmission, preventing mould, mildew and bacteria growth.
The final part of the subfloor preparation was to apply self-levelling compound to all areas of the room to even out an uneven surface. Self-levelling compound helps to smooth and flatten a surface. Having correctly prepared the subfloor, All Floor One was then able to install the luxury vinyl flooring. Our clients chose J2 Carpenters Oak Plank, which was laid in straight plank. The skirting boards were then refitted.
