All Floor One recently fitted new flooring in a house in Pelsall, Walsall. Our clients wanted new flooring in the lounge/dining room. This was quite a large space which ran from the front to the back of the house. Our clients also wanted new flooring in the hallway. They decided to have luxury vinyl flooring and opted for J2 Flooring, choosing Carpenters Oak Herringbone from the Creo range for both rooms.

Before we could lay the luxury vinyl tiles, we had to prepare the subfloor. As the subfloor didn’t provide the best conditions for laying the flooring onto, we ply lined it using 6mm sp101 plywood fixed to British Standards. You can see what this looked like from one of the photographs included. We deep fill screed some areas to height to ensure that we had a level surface. We then applied a full coat of a flexible smoothing compound over the whole floor, tying together all floor areas to produce a perfect finish.

The final part of the process was to lay the J2 LVT which we fitted in a herringbone pattern. We used F Ball Stopgap 46 pressure sensitive adhesive to fix the planks into place. We included a 5mm black feature strip and two brick border which was a nice decorative touch and defined the shape of the rooms.

With this project, the lounge/dining room included a bay window. To fit luxury vinyl flooring in a curved bay window can be challenging, but with the right skills, coupled with the appropriate tools, it’s not impossible. The main problem is ensuring a clean and accurate cut and fit for the LVT planks.
