Herringbone Pattern Luxury Vinyl Tiles fitted in Hallway and Lounge
Back in August 2020, we fitted some beautiful new flooring for some lovely customers, Emma and Jamie, who lived in Mickleover, Derby. They lived in an old property that had no functional DPM (damp-proof membrane) in the slab. Before anything else some repair mortar was needed in places. A repair mortar is used for restoring or replacing damaged concrete. It is an important element of preparing a subfloor before new flooring can be laid on top of it, which a professional floor fitter in Mickleover, Derby, would make sure to carry out if needed. We made sure that the repair mortar was an external grade mortar as it was being used on a floor with no physical DPM.
Once we had completed this part of the process, we used Ardex NA smoothing underlayment as a pre smoothing layer, and then Ardex DPM 1c Epoxy full DPM, then another coat of smoothing underlayment. The pre smooth was to ensure correct coverage of DPM, reduce pin-holing in application, and therefore ensure it worked correctly. It was also to negate issues with bitumen and other old residues on the slab.
It is so important that when installing new flooring, the subfloor is correctly prepared, especially in older properties. The quality and condition of the subfloor can directly affect the performance and resilience of the flooring being fitted on top of it. If one stage of the process is missed, the flooring could fail in the long term, regardless of the quality of it. Once the subfloor had been correctly prepared, we used FBall F46 pressure sensitive adhesive to fit J2 Flooring NTP49 blonde oak parquet dryback/fully bonded luxury vinyl tiles. Our customers wanted these to be laid in a Herringbone pattern with a traditional two-brick border. You can see how this project developed and what the flooring looked like once completed from the photographs attached. The new flooring flowed through the hall and into the living room.
In addition, we installed new flooring in the bathroom upstairs. This was ply-lined with Hansons 6mm SP101 ply, fixed to British standards, joints feathered, and then a borderless herringbone fit.
